If ever the term “time capsule” were to be used to describe a vacation rental home, it would be appropriate of Stardust Retreat in Coleman, Texas. To step into the property is like stepping back into the 1950s
Originally built in the mid-20th century, the upstairs loft was once the garage apartment of the original house, as a place for J.E. McDaniel and his cronies to drink whiskey, smoke cigars, and discuss running the town. Remodeled down to the studs, the finish-out is new, while the mid-century aestethic was kept in both design and furnishings.

Stardust Retreat will truly transport you back in time to a very unique era in American history: the mid-century.

The next-door Loft House was built in the late 1950s by the McDaniel family. The Loft House as it is today was once the garage and loft apartment of the original house, built by J.E. McDaniel as a place for him and his cronies to drink whiskey, smoke cigars, and discuss running the town. Sadly, the main house was eventually left vacant for so long it had to be torn down. The garage apartment, however, was structurally sound and completely renovated down to the studs in 2011.
Once renovated, the Loft House was completely brand-new on the inside, yet retaining its mid-century aesthetic and decor. It was also part of the Terrace Inn B&B, until I purchased it in 2019. Since that time it has been a vacation rental Texas property and today is part of the Stardust Retreat.

I adore the mid-century time period and architecture, and live in a mid-century home myself. When I bought this property, I realized a dream of not only having such amazing, authentic MCM homes, but also of being able to share their treasures with others. My goal is to create a peaceful retreat in this lovely, revitalizing town of Coleman, in a truly unique setting.
I have personal ties to the town — my mother’s side of the family hails from neighboring Brownwood, and my mom lived in Coleman for a few years as a child in the 1950s.
I love to welcome guests to this special place of nostalgia!
I chose the name “Stardust” because it was my grandparents’ song.
